Sustainable Manufacturing

Sustainable Packaging

The goodness we wrap our delicious snacks with should match the goodness inside every bite! That’s why we’ve taken big steps to make sure we’re doing our best, both inside and out.

Future goals

Every day we’re striving to be more and more sustainable! Here are the steps we’re taking to be better in the future.

We’re looking beyond the net for fully-recyclable packaging solutions.

We’re even exploring ways to remove the wrapper altogether (while preserving quality, of course!)

We’re reimagining our red wax by finding ways to use materials that are better for the environment like plant-based wax. Stay tuned!

Our dedicated packaging development team are continuously looking at options to make sure that our future packaging is not only just recyclable but also maintains the quality of our Babybel’s ® to the best possible standard.

Reduce & Reuse

We’re making waves in fighting food waste and improving our recycling chain.

As Babybel ® packaging is not yet widely recyclable, it can’t be placed in your recycling bin at home, so it needs to be recycled in a special way. This is why we have launched a TerraCycle scheme in the UK to offer customers a simple and free solution to recycle our packaging while supporting local charities and schools with donations at the same time. TerraCycle can recycle all Babybel ® packaging elements and is a positive step towards our commitment to becoming 100% recyclable or compostable.

All you have to do is find out where your local public drop-off location is below and drop off your Babybel packaging.

No cheese will go to waste on our watch! If there’s any leftover during production, it gets used for other (delicious) products.

Find out more

No cheese is wasted. Products that do not make the grade (too small, not properly shaped etc.) are used to produce other products.

We encourage recycling at all levels of distribution.

No leftovers here! Portions for one don’t just mean a balanced diet. They also mean less leftover waste.

We offer individual portions (20g), providing a fair dose of cheese and allowing nutritional needs to be met while controlling consumption.

iN THE FUTURE

We’ve got big goals for the future. Our protective red wax may be able to protect our snacks, without any additional packaging! For Mini Babybel®, the red wax is the main protective shell. Therefore, Babybel® is testing a program to sell Mini Babybel® without any additional packaging.

To launch our Babybel® bulk alternative, we work with Day by Day, a chain of stores in France committed just as we are to the reduction of the impact of packaging, to avoid food waste but still stay affordable.

We’ll be offering our products in bulk with no excess packaging!

For Mini Babybel®, unlike other products, the wax is the main protective shell. Therefore, the Babybel® teams are working on a pilote to sell Mini Babybel® without any packaging other than its iconic wax.

Our products are sold individually so you can buy 1 or 100 and keep on a budget!

In France, we are trialling a partnership with Day by Day: a retailer as committed to reducing waste as we are.
